I you have volume 1 you have to have volume 2. That was my thinking when I bought it and I beleave it after buying it. If your a Star Trek fan, you'll love this CD.
I couldn't help but smile just thinking about the DS9 episode "His Way" while I was listening. However, I really loved that Visitor's version of the song "Fever" was thrown in as a "bonus track" according to the CD slipcase.
The album, however, does not disappoint once it gets to the DS9, VOY, and TNG tracks. I was a little disappointed in the selection from the original series, I think the songs from Amok Time are better than the original series songs on this album.
If you like lounge music, you may enjoy it more than I did. They are either pulse pounding, retro during the Captain Proton songs and even beautiful when it is neither of the previous two.
I also didn't care for the lounge mix version of the original series theme, it just didn't sound that good, but, you have to take that with a pinch of salt. She really shows her pipes and can really sing.
Overall, this is a good buy, just not as good as the first record.
Although all the music on this CD is terrific, the TOS music is especially compelling, the more so from an old fan like myself who knew the music was good even though, as a kid,I was hearing it from the small speaker of a tinny black and white televison set. From the "cubicle" xylophone and the sweeping violins of " The Suite from The Corbomite Maneuver" to the unforgettable trumpets of " Balance of Terror" to " The Suite from What are Little Girls Made of." (which incidentally, is composed partly of the memorable musical opening to the main body of the episode, "Arena"). Full length, and with an awe-inspiring bass line that one could never really hear on that old black and white TV, these three selections alone are well worth the money.
There is much more music that was left out of these fantastic episodes. The original series deserves better. Frankly, I want the complete music from the episodes such as "The Corbomite Maneuver", "Ballance of Terror", and so on. If they wanted to have her sing, then do a separate CD like Nichelle. Again, the TNG theme is not needed. not just suites on an "Best of" CD.
The "Bride of Chaotica" is also just annoying, it works in the episode, but not here. While I love to hear all of the original series' music, I am disappointed in how little is really on this CD. While I don't mind the DS9 theme, it too is way too long and wastes space. I am left both fulfilled and empty when I listen to this CD. "Fever", Nana's song, is just a waste of space on the CD which could have been put to much better use. The music from "All Good Things" also needs it's own CD.
So, bottom line is buy it for the TOS themes, you do get and enjoy because it is very unlikely that GNP will get off of it's butt and release these in their full glory.
